The celebrity packed crowd at the Governor's Island charity polo match gasped when the 25-year-old prince tumbled from his horse and landed on his bum.
The third in line to the British throne quickly climbed back into the saddle to the sound of cheers and clicking cameras as spectators that included Susan Sarandon, Mary J. Blige, Ivanka Trump, Val Kilmer and Julianna Margulies watched.
"He looked quite heroic," Samantha Harrison, 34, of London, said of the young prince's quick recovery.
The Royal rough ride came during the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic on Governor's Island.
Prince Harry, playing for the Black Rock team to raise money for children with AIDS in Africa, was preparing to strike with his mallet when his pony put on the brakes and sent him flying forward.
Grasping tightly to the reins, the son of the late Princess Diana briefly landed on his feet before falling hard on his derriere.
After catching his breath, Harry, who was wearing a helmet, was back on the wily horse within 10 seconds to finish the match.
His team ended up losing 6-5 to a squad led by Argentine equestrian and Polo fashion model Nacho Figueras.
The event capped the Prince's three-day trip to New York that included a visit to West Point Military Academy and a chance to toss out the first pitch at a Mets game. ( nydailynews.com )
