Simon Cowell's Britain's Got Talent survival kit: Smoothies, cigarettes, gum and Subway vouchers. With a hard day of auditioning all manner of eccentrics ahead of him, it would be no surprise if Simon Cowell felt in need of a pick me up.

And as he arrived for the Britain's Got Talent show in Manchester today, Cowell had every eventuality covered.

A 'survival kit' on the passenger seat of his Rolls Royce held a bumper pack of Extra sugarfree chewing gum, five packs of his favourite Kool cigarettes, a selection of Innocent fruit smoothies and some unidentified medication.

With a full day of auditions planned, it would be no surprise if they turned out to be headache pills.

There was even some indication of Simon's favourite snack - discount vouchers for sandwich chain Subway.

As well as watching the auditions, Cowell is currently masterminding a drive to record a charity single in aid of earthquake stricken Haiti.

Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Elton John are on the A-list of stars approached to sing on a charity cover of REM's Everybody Hurts.

They would join Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle, Take That and Alexandra Burke, alongside X Factor winner Joe McElderry on the single.

All funds raised will be split between charities the Disasters Emergency Committee and Helping Haiti/ Medicins Sans Frontiers.
